Historical context

Lucius Septimius Severus ruled as Roman emperor from 193 to 211, establishing the Severan dynasty with his sons. His younger son, Geta, was elevated to Augustus, or co-emperor, in 209 alongside his elder brother Caracalla. In 208, Severus journeyed to Britain, where he strengthened Hadrian's Wall, reoccupied the Antonine Wall, and subsequently invaded Caledonia in 209 before dying at Eboracum in early 211.

Struck at the Rome mint, this silver denarius formed part of the standard silver currency of the Roman Empire. The obverse depicts Geta alongside the title "P SEPT GETA PIVS AVG BRIT", while the reverse carries the legend "VICTORIAE BRIT" accompanying an image of Victory holding a wreath and a palm branch, marking the Roman military campaigns undertaken in Britain during this period.
