Historical context

Lucius Septimius Severus ruled as Roman emperor from 193 to 211, establishing imperial authority following the Year of the Five Emperors. Together with his second wife, Julia Domna, Severus had two sons, Caracalla and Geta. While Caracalla became Augustus in 198, Geta was later proclaimed Augustus in 209. Severus and Geta both served as authorities in the imperial administration during this era of dynastic rule.

Produced at the mint of Rome, this silver piece belongs to the denarius denomination, which functioned as the standard Roman silver coin from circa 211 BC until the reign of Gordian III. The reverse bears the inscription "FELICITAS PVBLICA" and features Felicitas standing draped, holding a caduceus in her right hand and a cornucopiae in her left hand.
