Historical context

Diadumenian was the son of the Roman emperor Macrinus. Following his father's accession to the imperial throne, Diadumenian became caesar in May 217. In May 218, amid the revolt of Elagabalus, he was elevated to co-ruler. After Macrinus suffered defeat at the Battle of Antioch on 8 June 218, Diadumenian was dispatched to the court of Artabanus IV of Parthia, but he was captured and executed in June 218.

Produced at the mint of Rome, this bronze as names him under the obverse legend "M OPEL DIADVMENIANVS CAES". The reverse portrays Diadumenian standing with a baton and sceptre beside two standards, accompanied by the inscription "PRINC IVVENTVTIS S C".
