Historical context

Macrinus reigned as Roman emperor from April 217 to June 218 alongside his son Diadumenianus. Proclaimed emperor in the eastern provinces following the murder of Caracalla, he was the first emperor from the equestrian rather than senatorial class and never visited Rome during his reign. Upon his accession, Macrinus faced empty coffers and inherited active conflicts, including a war with Parthia, which he sought to resolve through diplomatic actions.
