Historical context

Maximinus Thrax served as Roman emperor from 235 to 238, having risen through the military ranks before being proclaimed emperor by the army following the murder of Severus Alexander. His reign, which commenced the Crisis of the Third Century, ended during the senatorial revolt of 238 when he marched towards Rome and was assassinated at Aquileia by soldiers of Legio II Parthica.

The obverse features the prince's bare-headed, draped bust accompanied by the inscription MAXIMVS CAES GERM. The reverse depicts priestly implements, including a central jug flanked by a lituus, knife, patera, simpulum, and sprinkler, paired with the legend PIETAS AVG S C.
