Historical context

Severus Alexander ruled as Roman emperor from 222 until 235 AD, becoming the last ruler of the Severan dynasty. Ascending the throne at the age of 13 after the murder of his cousin Elagabalus, his thirteen-year reign was the longest of a sole emperor since Antoninus Pius. This coinage was produced at the mint of Rome under his imperial authority.

This piece features the imperial title "IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG" on the obverse, paired with a reverse depicting Jupiter seated with Victory and a spear, inscribed with the legend "IOVI VLTORI".
