Historical context

Marcus Aurelius Severus Alexander, the final emperor of the Severan dynasty, ruled the Roman Empire from 222 until 235 AD. Succeeding his murdered cousin Elagabalus at the age of 13, he became the youngest sole emperor of the empire. Although his thirteen-year reign was peaceful and prosperous at home, his authority ended when he was assassinated alongside his mother, Julia Avita Mamaea, during campaigns against Germanic tribes.

This silver denarius was struck at the Rome mint under the authority of Severus Alexander. The obverse depicts the bust of Orbiana, accompanied by the inscription "SALL BARBIA ORBIANA AVG", while the reverse features the goddess Concordia seated with a patera and double cornucopiae, paired with the legend "CONCORDIA AVGG".
