Historical context
This coin was produced for Allectus under the Roman Empire at the Camulodunum mint.
The denomination is an antoninianus, a coin introduced by Caracalla in early AD 215 that was originally valued at two denarii. Characterised by an obverse depicting the ruler wearing a radiate crown, the denomination was struck to pay troops and maintain loyalty, though its silver content underwent progressive debasement across the third century AD. This issue features the obverse legend "IMP C ALLECTVS P F AVG" and displays Providentia on the reverse holding a globe and cornucopiae, paired with the legend "PROVIDENTIA AVG".
