Historical context

This gold coin was struck under the authority of Allectus within the Roman Empire, produced at the mint of Londinium. Allectus ruled during the imperial era that spanned from 27 BC to AD 476, issuing coinage bearing his imperial titles alongside depictions of his bust.

While roughly comparable in size to the denarius, the coin possessed greater weight owing to the density of gold. This specimen displays the obverse inscription "IMP C ALLECTVS P F AVG", while the reverse depicts a draped figure of Pax galloping left in a biga, accompanied by the legend "PAX AVG".
