Historical context

Struck at the mint of Siscia, this silver antoninianus represents a denomination first introduced by Caracalla in early 215 AD and valued at two denarii. The coin features the radiate crown standard for the denomination, along with the obverse inscription "AVRELIANVS AVG". The reverse bears the legend "ORIENS AVG" alongside an image of the radiate deity Sol holding a globe with a captive at his feet.
