Historical context

After taking power following the deaths of Claudius Gothicus and Quintillus, he secured a series of military victories against invading barbarian groups, including the Alamanni, Goths, and Vandals.

Struck at Serdica, this silver antoninianus reflects Aurelian's monetary measures and ideological claims. The antoninianus was introduced as a denomination valued at two denarii, distinguished by the radiate crown worn by the emperor. The reverse scene and inscription "RESTITVT ORBIS" correspond directly to the title Restitutor Orbis, or "Restorer of the World", which was bestowed upon Aurelian for successfully restoring the territorial integrity of the empire.
