Historical context
This silver antoninianus represents a denomination introduced under Caracalla in 215, thought to have been valued at two denarii, which had suffered progressive debasement throughout the third century. In 271, Aurelian temporarily increased the average weight of the denomination. The coin bears the obverse title "IMP AVRELIANVS AVG" and a reverse depicting the emperor receiving a globe from Jupiter, accompanied by the inscription "IOVI CONSER".
