Antoninianus in silver struck at Antioch, Syria under Numerian, AD 283–AD 284, catalogued as RIC V Carus 466. Obverse: Bust of Numerian, radiate, draped, right, or bust of Numerian, radiate, cuirassed, right.

Reverse: Numerian, draped, cuirassed, standing right, holding sceptre in right hand and receiving globe or Victory on globe from Jupiter or Carus standing left, holding sceptre. Obverse legend: IMP C M AVR NVMERIANVS P F AVG. Reverse legend: VIRTVS AVGG.

Historical context

Numerian was Roman emperor from 283 to 284 alongside his older brother Carinus. They were the sons of Carus, who ruled from 282 until his sudden death in 283 while on campaign against the Sassanid Empire. Following their father's death, the brothers succeeded him and established a brief dynasty.
