Historical context

This silver antoninianus was produced during Carausius's reign, thought to represent a double denomination valued at two denarii. Introduced originally in 215, the antoninianus served as a circulating coin widely minted to pay troops and secure their loyalty. The obverse features the emperor wearing a radiate crown, characteristic of the denomination, accompanied by the title "IMP CARAVSIVS P F AVG". The reverse depicts Laetitia holding a wreath and either an anchor or javelin, inscribed with variations of the legend "LAETITIA AVG".
