Historical context

Marcus Aurelius Claudius Gothicus ruled as Roman emperor from 268 until he died in 270 after contracting a pestilence. His brother Marcus Aurelius Claudius Quintillus assumed power in 270, reigning for only a few weeks before being overthrown by Aurelian. During his brief rule, Quintillus struck silver antoniniani at Rome bearing the posthumous consecration issue for his deified predecessor, identified by the obverse designation Divo Claudio.
