Historical context
Marcus Annius Florianus, or Florian, succeeded his half-brother Tacitus as Roman emperor in 276. His brief reign lasted only 88 days before he was killed by his own soldiers during a confrontation with the rival emperor Probus. This silver antoninianus was produced during that brief period at Serdica, an ancient Roman city located in what is today Sofia, Bulgaria.
