Historical context
Marcus Annius Florianus, also known as Florian, briefly served as Roman emperor in 276 after taking the throne following the death of his half-brother Tacitus. His reign lasted only 88 days before he was killed by his own troops during a confrontation with the rival emperor Probus, who had gained control of the Eastern provinces. This antoninianus was produced during Florian's brief reign at Cyzicus, an ancient Greek town situated in Mysia in Anatolia.
