Historical context

Marcus Annius Florianus briefly held the throne as Roman emperor in AD 276 following the death of his half-brother, Tacitus. His reign lasted only 88 days before he was killed by his own troops during a confrontation with his rival, Probus. This coin is an aureus, the primary gold denomination of the Roman Empire from the 1st century BC until the early 4th century AD, struck at Rome during his brief rule.
