Antoninianus in silver struck at Siscia under Julian of Pannonia, AD 283–AD 286, catalogued as RIC V Sabinus Julianus 2. Obverse: Bust of Julianus, radiate, draped, cuirassed, right, or bust of Julianus, radiate, cuirassed, right.

Reverse: Felicitas, draped, standing left, holding caduceus in right hand and sceptre in left hand. Obverse legend: IMP C M AVR IVLIANVS P F AVG. Reverse legend: FELICITAS TEMPORVM.

Historical context

Marcus Aurelius Sabinus Julianus, known as Julian of Pannonia, was a Roman usurper who rebelled between 283 and 285 or 286 against the authority of Emperor Carinus or Maximian. His short-lived revolt is corroborated primarily by numismatic evidence, including antoniniani struck at the mint of Siscia. Originally created under Caracalla in 215 AD with a radiate crown designating a double denomination, the antoninianus remained in circulation through the civil wars of the late 3rd century.
