Historical context

Marcus Cassianius Latinius Postumus, a Roman commander of Batavian origin, ruled as emperor of the Gallic Empire between 259 and 269. Around 260, the Roman army in Gaul renounced its allegiance to Emperor Gallienus. Postumus subsequently took the imperial title and governed the provinces of Gaul, Germania, Britannia, and Hispania from centres including Lugdunum for nearly ten years before being murdered by his soldiers.

Struck at Lugdunum, the piece bears the obverse title "IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG" and features on the reverse the deity Minerva running with an olive branch, spear, and shield, accompanied by the inscription "MINER FAVTR".
