Historical context

Marcus Aurelius Claudius Quintillus was a short-lived Roman emperor who took power in 270 following the death of his brother, Emperor Claudius Gothicus. His brief rule ended after only a few weeks when he was overthrown by Aurelian, who had been acclaimed rival emperor by the legions under his command. The antoninianus was a denomination introduced by Caracalla in early 215 AD, which had progressively debased into bronze during the reigns of third-century emperors.
