Historical context

Marcus Aurelius Claudius Quintillus briefly held power as Roman emperor in AD 270 following the death of his brother, Emperor Claudius Gothicus. His rule lasted only a few weeks before he was overthrown by Aurelian, who had been proclaimed rival emperor by his legions. This silver antoninianus, a denomination introduced under Caracalla in early 215 AD and typically depicting the emperor wearing a radiate crown, was struck under Quintillus in AD 270 at the mint of Siscia.
