Historical context

Marcus Claudius Tacitus was Roman emperor from 275 to June 276, noted for campaigning against the Goths and Heruli. This antoninianus, a denomination introduced by Caracalla in 215 AD, was produced at Ticinum. The mint at Ticinum had been transferred from Mediolanum by Aurelian in 275 and remained operational until it was closed by Constantine the Great in 326.
