Historical context
The emperor is presented on the obverse bearing a radiate crown alongside the title "IMP C M CL TACITVS P F AVG", struck at an uncertain mint.
The denomination is an antoninianus, or pre-reform radiate, a coin originally introduced in early 215 AD under Caracalla to serve as a double denomination valued at two denarii. Characterised by the radiate crown worn by the emperor, the antoninianus underwent progressive debasement throughout the third century amidst bullion shortages and military demands, continuing in use until monetary reforms brought about its cessation by the close of the third century. On this issue, the reverse bears the inscription "TEMPORVM FELICITAS" and depicts Felicitas holding a caduceus and a cornucopiae.
