Historical context

Maximinus Daza was admitted to the Tetrarchy as caesar in 305 by his uncle Galerius and later claimed the title of augustus in 310, ruling until his death in 313 following his defeat by Licinius. Licinius himself reigned as Roman emperor from 308 to 324, co-authoring the Edict of Milan with Constantine I. Alexandria, founded in 331 BC by Alexander the Great, was a major commercial centre in Egypt where coins were produced under imperial authority during these shared and contested tetrarchic reigns.
