Gold multiple in gold struck at Alexandria under Maximinus Daia, AD 305–AD 306, catalogued as RIC VI Alexandria 49. Obverse: Bust of Galerius, laureate, draped, cuirassed, right, seen from behind.

Reverse: Jupiter, chlamys draped over right arm, standing front, head left, holding Victory on globe in right hand and leaning on sceptre with left hand. Obverse legend: IMP C MAXIMIANVS P F AVG. Reverse legend: IOVI CON-SERVATORI.

Historical context

In 305, Emperor Galerius appointed his nephew Maximinus Daza to the Tetrarchy with the rank of caesar. Galerius, who had earlier served as caesar under Diocletian, was elevated to augustus in 305 upon Diocletian's abdication. This gold multiple was struck between AD 305 and AD 306 at the mint of Alexandria under Maximinus Daia, honouring his senior co-ruler Galerius.
