Historical context

This bronze fraction was produced at the Alexandria mint under the authority of Maximinus Daia, also known as Galerius Valerius Maximinus. Born as Daza, he entered the Tetrarchy with the rank of caesar in 305 through his uncle Galerius. He subsequently claimed the rank of augustus in 310, ruled as Roman emperor until 313, and was the final individual to hold the title of Pharaoh of Egypt.

Struck during the Roman imperial period, the coin depicts the laureate bust of Maximian wearing an imperial mantle and raising his right hand, accompanied by the obverse inscription "D N MAXIMIANO FELICISS". The reverse bears the legend "PROVIDENTIA DEORVM" and portrays Providentia extending her right hand towards Quies, who holds a branch in her right hand and leans upon a sceptre with her left.
