AE3 in bronze struck at Aquileia under Constantine I, AD 312–AD 313, catalogued as RIC VI Aquileia 133. Obverse: Head of Maximinus Daia, laureate, right. Reverse: Jupiter, chlamys draped over left shoulder (or hanging behind), standing left (or standing front, head left), holding thunderbolt in right hand and leaning on sceptre in left hand; to left, eagle standing left, holding wreath in beak.

Historical context

Constantine I became Roman emperor in AD 306, gaining proclamation from his troops at Eboracum following the death of his father, Flavius Constantius. Galerius Valerius Maximinus, born Daza, was elevated to caesar within the Tetrarchy in 305 and claimed the rank of augustus in 310. Though Constantine and Maximinus shared imperial power alongside Licinius during the civil wars of the Tetrarchy, Maximinus remained a committed pagan until his defeat and death in 313.
