Historical context

Constantius Chlorus was one of the four original members of the Tetrarchy founded by Diocletian, serving as caesar from 293 until 305 and then ruling as augustus until his death in July 306. Added to the imperial college by Diocletian, he governed Gaul, campaigned along the Rhine frontier, and defeated usurpers in Gaul and Britain before becoming senior emperor in May 305.

Struck at the mint of Aquileia under the authority of Constantius Chlorus, this bronze AE1 piece features an obverse portrait of Galerius with the legend "IMP MAXIMIANVS P F AVG". The reverse depicts a draped figure of Fides seated left and holding a standard in each hand, accompanied by the inscription "FIDES - MI-LITVM", "FIDES - M-IL-ITVM", or "FIDES - M-ILITVM".
