Historical context

Maximinus Daza was admitted to the Tetrarchy as caesar in 305 by his uncle Galerius, and he later claimed the title of augustus in 310. Following Galerius's death in May 311, Maximinus struck this bronze coinage at Cyzicus, an ancient city located in Mysia in Anatolia. The issue honours the memory of the deceased emperor, who had served as caesar under Diocletian before becoming augustus in 305.
