Historical context

Galerius was Roman emperor from 305 to 311, having previously served as Caesar under Diocletian before being elevated to Augustus upon Diocletian's abdication in 305. During his reign within the Tetrarchy, Galerius governed eastern territories of the Roman Empire and oversaw extensive regional coin production. This bronze piece was struck between AD 305 and AD 306 at Heraclea, also known as Perinthus, an ancient city situated on the Propontis in Thrace.
