Historical context
Licinius served as Roman emperor from 308 to 324, during which he shared and frequently contested authority with rival rulers such as Maximinus Daza, who claimed the rank of augustus in 310. Struck in AD 312 under Licinius, this bronze coin portrays Maximinus Daia. It was produced at Heraclea, also known as Perinthus, a flourishing coastal city in ancient Thrace situated on the Propontis, near modern Marmara Ereğlisi in Turkey.
