Historical context

Valerius Licinianus Licinius was Roman emperor from 308 to 324, ruling for most of this period alongside his colleague and rival Constantine I. This bronze coin was struck under his authority at Heraclea, an ancient Thracian city on the Propontis formerly known as Perinthus. Licinius's reign ultimately concluded with his defeat at the Battle of Chrysopolis in 324 and his subsequent execution on Constantine's orders.
