Historical context

Constantine I was Roman emperor from AD 306 to 337. He had been recalled to the west in AD 305 to campaign alongside his father, Flavius Constantius, in the province of Britannia. Following the death of his father in 306, Constantine was proclaimed augustus by his army at Eboracum.

This bronze AE1 issue was struck under Constantine's authority at the mint of Londinium. The obverse bears his laureate, cuirassed bust accompanied by the legend CONSTANTINVS P F AVG. On the reverse, the design depicts Concordia draped and holding a standard in each hand, paired with the legend CONCOR-D MILIT, CONCOR-D - MILIT, or CONCO-R-D MILIT.
