AE1 in bronze struck at Londinium under Constantius Chlorus, AD 305–AD 307, catalogued as RIC VI Londinium 41. Obverse: Bust of Galerius, laureate, cuirassed, right. Reverse: Genius, wearing modius, nude, chlamys draped over left shoulder, standing left, holding patera in right hand and cornucopiae in left hand. Obverse legend: IMP C MAXIMIANVS P FEL AVG. Reverse legend: GENIO POPV-LI ROMANI.

Historical context

Constantius Chlorus served as one of the original members of Diocletian's Tetrarchy, acting as caesar from 293 until becoming senior emperor, or augustus, in May 305. His colleague Galerius was elevated to augustus in 305 after campaigning extensively across the Danube and against the Sasanian Empire. Struck between AD 305 and AD 307, this bronze coin was produced at Londinium, an urban centre established on the River Thames that served as Britannia's largest city and provincial capital.
