Historical context

Constantine I was Roman emperor from AD 306 to 337. After campaigning in the eastern provinces under Diocletian and Galerius, he was recalled to the west in AD 305 to campaign alongside his father in Britannia. Following his father's death in 306, Constantine was proclaimed augustus by his army at Eboracum, later securing sole rule over the Roman Empire after the civil wars of the Tetrarchy.

This bronze AE1 piece was produced at the mint of Londinium under the authority of Constantine I. The reverse design depicts a draped genius wearing a modius and holding a patera and cornucopiae, accompanied by the inscription GENIO - POP ROM.
