Historical context

Maximian served as Roman emperor from 286 to 305, sharing the title of Augustus with Diocletian. After campaigning across Gaul, along the Rhine, and in Mauretania, he concluded his military operations in 298 and relocated to Italy, where he remained until his abdication on 1 May 305 alongside Diocletian.

Struck at the Rome mint under Maximian's authority, this bronze AE1 piece features a laureate head of Galerius alongside the obverse legend MAXIMIANVS NOB CAES. The reverse depicts Moneta standing draped with scales and a cornucopiae, accompanied by the inscription SACRA MON VRB AVGG ET CAESS NN.
