Historical context

Maximian served as Roman emperor alongside Diocletian, holding the rank of Caesar from 285 to 286 and Augustus from 286 to 305. After conducting campaigns along the Rhine, in Hispania, and in Mauretania, he concluded his military expeditions in 298 and resided in Italy until his abdication in 305. He later resumed the Augustan title between late 306 and 308.

Produced at the mint of Rome, this bronze AE3 coin was issued under Maximian's authority. The obverse features his radiate bust accompanied by the imperial legend "IMP C M A MAXIMIANVS P F AVG", while the reverse depicts the inscription "VOT / XX" framed within a wreath.
