Historical context
Maximian served as Roman emperor alongside Diocletian from 286 until 1 May 305, when he abdicated at Diocletian's behest and retired to southern Italy. Following this abdication, Severus II served as a member of the Tetrarchy and was Roman emperor from 306 to 307. This bronze coinage, depicting Maximian, was struck at the ancient mint of Siscia between AD 305 and AD 306 under Severus II.
