Historical context

Licinius served as Roman emperor from 308 to 324, spending much of his reign as a colleague and rival of Constantine I. Maximian had originally ruled as Augustus from 286 until his abdication in 305, later reclaiming the imperial title in late 306 before being forced to renounce it at the Conference of Carnuntum in November 308. This coin features the portrait of Maximian and was issued under the authority of Licinius at the mint of Siscia.
