Historical context

Licinius served as Roman emperor from 308 to 324, acting for most of his reign as the colleague and rival of Constantine I. Together, the two rulers co-authored the Edict of Milan, which extended official toleration to Christians across the Roman Empire. Struck at the mint of Siscia, this coinage reflects the complex joint authority of the imperial colleagues before civil wars culminated in Licinius's defeat by Constantine in 324.
