Historical context

Galerius served as Roman emperor from 305 to 311, having been promoted to Augustus upon the abdication of Diocletian within the Tetrarchy. Following his accession, he struggled to maintain stability as the Tetrarchic system faced breakdown and internal rivalry. Licinius became Roman emperor in 308, reigning alongside Galerius and later Constantine I. This bronze coin was minted between AD 308 and AD 310 at Thessalonica, acknowledging Licinius under Galerius's authority.
