Historical context

Galerius ruled the Roman Empire from 305 to 311, having previously served as caesar under Diocletian within the Tetrarchy. Following his promotion to augustus upon Diocletian's abdication in 305, his reign involved contending with multiple usurpers amid the breakdown of the Tetrarchic system. This bronze AE2 coinage was produced under his authority at the mint of Thessalonica.

The coin was struck featuring Galeria Valeria, designated on the obverse with the legend "GAL VALERIA AVG". Her bust appears draped in embroidered robes and diademed. The reverse is dedicated to Venus, depicted holding an apple and raising her drapery, accompanied by the inscription "VENERI V-ICTRICI" or "VENERI VI-CTRICI".
