Historical context

Ticinum was an ancient Roman city in Gallia Transpadana where a mint operated from 275 until its closure by Constantine the Great in 326. This bronze piece was struck at Ticinum between AD 312 and AD 313 under Constantine I, portraying Maximinus Daza. Maximinus, who claimed the title of augustus in 310, contested imperial power during the civil wars of the Tetrarchy before being routed at the Battle of Tzirallum and dying in 313.
