Historical context

Maximian served as Roman emperor alongside his co-emperor Diocletian, holding the rank of Caesar from 285 to 286 and Augustus from 286 to 305. Maximian conducted extensive military campaigns across the Rhine frontier, Gaul, Hispania, and Mauretania before departing for Italy in 298.

Struck at the mint of Ticinum under Maximian's imperial authority, this bronze fraction bears the obverse inscription CONSTANTIVS NOB CAES, naming Constantius Chlorus as noble Caesar. The reverse design features the legend CONCOR-DIAE AVGG and portrays Diocletian receiving Victory on a globe from Jupiter, who stands holding a sceptre.
