Historical context

Flavius Julius Crispus was the eldest son of Constantine I and served as his caesar from March 317. After commanding naval forces to defeat Licinius I at the Battle of the Hellespont in 324, Crispus helped secure sole imperial rule for Constantine across the Roman Empire. This bronze coin was issued under Constantine between 325 and 326, the year Constantine had Crispus executed at Pola.
