Historical context

Constantine I, also known as Constantine the Great, ruled the Roman Empire from AD 306 to 337. After being proclaimed emperor at Eboracum in 306, he triumphed in the civil wars of the Tetrarchy against Maxentius and Licinius, establishing himself as sole ruler of the empire by 324. His reign saw significant administrative restructuring, the introduction of monetary reforms, and the foundation of Constantinople as imperial capital.

This bronze coinage was issued at the Alexandria mint under Constantine's authority. Struck as an AE2 or AE3 piece, it features the obverse inscription "VRBS - ROMA" alongside a helmeted bust of Roma wearing an imperial cloak.
