Historical context

Constantine I ruled the Roman Empire as emperor from AD 306 to 337, eventually becoming sole ruler by 324 after victorious civil wars against Maxentius and Licinius. Born to Flavius Constantius and Helena, a Greek woman from Bithynia, he enacted wide-ranging administrative, military, and currency reforms. Under his authority, bronze coinage was produced across imperial mints, including Antioch in Syria.

This bronze denomination was struck at Antioch, with related varieties produced at other imperial mints including Rome, Sirmium, Cyzicus, and Nicomedia. The obverse depicts Constantine's mother, Helena, accompanied by the inscription "FL HELENA - AVGVSTA". The reverse pairs her depiction with a figure of Securitas holding a branch and raising her robe, accompanied by the legend "SECVRITAS - REIPVBLICE".
