Historical context
This coin was produced between AD 313 and AD 315 at Cyzicus, an ancient Greek town in Mysia in Anatolia. It was struck under Licinius, Roman emperor from 308 to 324, who co-authored the Edict of Milan granting toleration to Christians alongside Constantine I. For much of his reign, Licinius served as both colleague and rival to Constantine, who had been proclaimed emperor in 306 before defeating Licinius in 324.
