Historical context

Valerius Licinianus Licinius ruled as Roman emperor from 308 to 324, acting for most of that period as colleague and rival to Constantine I. This coinage was issued under his authority depicting his son Licinius II, who held the rank of caesar between March 317 and September 324. It was struck at Heraclea, also known as Perinthus, an ancient city of Thrace situated on the Propontis.
